2ED and 2JD took part in what was a very competitive tag rugby fixture against Willington School. In total there were six games played: 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 loses making the whole fixture a draw! On Mr Wright’s pitch the boys gave some outstanding performances in particular Felix Gerlach, Kit Lockard and Tobin O’Donnell. Meanwhile on Mr Morrison’s pitch, Alexander Harley gained a lot of success running between the Willington defenders and offloading the ball quickly.
A special mention goes to Mrs Thom, who made her refereeing debut. The Squirrels captain on the pitch, Robert Shankland said “It was quite cool to have Mrs Thom referee my game vs Willington, I would give her a 11 out of 10 for her refereeing and would love to have her referee my games again”. When asked how her first referring experience went, Mrs Thom said it was “very enjoyable and I was impressed with many of the boys’ performances”.

2AR & 2ED vs Donhead Monday 23rd February
2AR and 2ED travelled to Donhead Sports Ground to play in a tag rugby fixture. On arrival there were clear blue skies and a strong wind, however the weather didn’t stay like this for long and at half time it started to rain. However this didn’t put off the Squirrel boys who played to the conditions and kept possession superbly well. There were six individual matches; Squirrels won four, drew one and lost one.
When asked how his team played, an ecstatic Mr Morrison responded saying ”The boys were awesome. Callum Grantham and Leo Dickinson linked up superbly, Felix Gerlach applied pressure on the Donhead defence by closing them down quickly, whilst Jonathan Miles and Felix Le Vesconte regularly showed the Donhead defenders a clean pair of heels as they accelerated past . Jethro Eley played with real determination and displayed excellent passing skills as he moved the ball around with accuracy and speed”
In the other matches being played, Lachlan Bisset, demonstrated quick feet and excellent changes of direction to whizz past the Donhead defenders scoring a number of tries in the process. Arvind Benedict displayed cheerfulness in the face of adversity after falling face down in the mud, picking himself up, wiping the mud off and playing on.

Rory Keller captained his team to a narrow 25-20 points victory. Arun Joshi performed fantastically well scoring a hat-trick of tries for his team. Thomas Larkins showed excellent changes of speed and direction and Oscar Ianotti and his team showed determination to earn a 50-50 draw despite playing with one less player!
RMH vs Donhead Thursday 19th March
In the first match against Donhead, Gabriel made some encouraging runs with the ball and Cameron made a fantastic save. However, despite a few attempts on goals Squirrels could not find the back of the net and they were to rue the misses as Donhead scored a couple of goals to win the match.
A dark cloud loomed overhead; but the performances in the second match lit up the pitch. Devan, Toby, Charles, Harry and Zander mesmerised the Donhead players who could only stand and watch as wave after wave of attack was countered only by some fine goal keeping. It was like being at Pittodrie watching the Aberdeen team of the early 1980’s all over again.
In the third game, Archie and Dougie were dribbling through the Donhead defence and making some excellent passing choices. Only a few minutes into the game and Sanjit made a super pass to Alexander D who coolly slotted the ball into the far corner. Scott Lee was a rock at the back helping his team to keep a clean sheet. An assist from Archie resulted in another goal from Alexander and Squirrels running out 2-0 winners
In the last match, each attack was cancelled out by the other team’s excellent defending. Max made an outstanding save which Tim Krul would have been proud of; George covered every blade of grass on the pitch and was involved in some strong tackles and a couple of wonderful strikes of the ball at goal. Noah showed great control and made some fine passes. It looked to be heading for a draw; but a late winner sealed the victory for Donhead.
