The most notable date in the Friends of Squirrel's calendar was the Ball which took place on the evening of Saturday 15th March 2014.
This prestigious event held in the Great Hall at King’s College proved to be a glamorous and fun-filled event for parents and teachers alike. The theme of the evening was a Great Gats-by inspired ball. The hall was adorned with the decadence of the 1920's with guests getting into the swing of things with jazz inspired dresses and sleek tuxedos. The guests enjoyed a champagne reception and four course meal along with top entertainment throughout the evening and dancing until midnight!
The event exceeded all our expectations with another record-breaking fundraising total. With the generosity of parents in the exciting auction, ticket sales and sponsorship we have raised just over £19,000. From this, on behalf of the parents FOS shall donate £5,700 to our chosen charity 'Winston’s Wish', the leading charity for bereaved children. The money raised will help Winston’s Wish to develop its school programme; working with teachers and parents to ensure bereaved children receive the most appropriate support. The remain-ing £13,300 will be reinvested into the school in order to provide additional facilities and equipment for our boys, including the realisation of the "Orchard Garden project". A special thanks to the Ball Chair Celine Ebbans and her amazing team.
FOS have made it possible for Mr Morrison to capture the boys and their many achievements on the sports field with the donation of £540 towards a specialist camera and £600 for sports equipment.
For World Book Day, FOS funded £389 for the visiting author, Ian MacDonald who was very impressed with the boys’ great concentration and participation during his workshops.
The author signing and book sale was well supported. Last but not least, FOS have also supported Miss Gard-ner with the purchase of items amounting to £240 for religious education studies.
Next term we have the Summer Fair to look forward to. The theme this year will be the Seaside and in addi-tion to enjoying a day of fun, the focus will be to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our boys. There will be lots of activities like the surf board simulator, great food, competitions, lively entertainment and much more! So please book your diaries for Saturday 14th June.
The success of this term was of course made possible by the support of our boys, parents and teachers! We are very much looking forward to a great summer term!
