FoS Autumn 2017

Friends of Squirrels wrapped up a busy autumn term with our Christmas Fair, a wonderfully wintery day of fun and festivities, including singing led by Mrs Pincott and some unexpected seasonal sights – Mr Foster in an inflatable turkey suit, Mr Cassells dodging balls as a snowman and even Mr Bragg (dressed as a cracker) back at WCPS to join in the games.

We are so grateful to all the teaching staff and coaches for their endless enthusiasm and good humour!

Elsewhere, Santa welcomed children into his magical grotto to hear their many Christmas wishes… including a request for a real puppy. The fair raised an incredible £4,073, which will go back into the boys’ learning experience and 10% to our chosen charity, First Touch, at St George’s neonatal unit. Thank you to everyone who put so much energy into making it a day to remember.

Earlier in the term, the parents got together to pit their wits against each other and the teachers at our Annual Quiz Night and AGM. After some rather raucous rounds, this year’s hotly contested title went to a Year Two parents’ team, ‘Flagrante Delicto’.

We were also pleased to be able to fund storyteller Kevin Grall’s visit this term and invest in classroom visualisers, to help the boys share their work. We are happy to report that new wooden building blocks and playground equipment have been a particular hit with the boys and a great source of imaginative play – last seen assembled by some of year one as a ‘Power Rangers’ jet ski’.

This term we were pleased meet new parents at our welcome coffee and uniform sale and to see new members join us. With just three years at the school for each boy, Friends of Squirrels is an active and ever-changing committee. If you are interested in finding out more about what we do or how you can get involved please get in touch via the school office and come along to our next meeting – we’d love to see you there!
