Friends of Squirrels
The Autumn term has been a very busy one for Friends of Squirrels. Our first big event was the AGM and Quiz Night, which was a sell-out.
The evening was a great success, and we would like to thank Mr. Dodd for his fantastic compèring skills and highly entertaining quiz questions. As well as being a fun evening for all, the Quiz night raised £1083.03 for the school.
We then moved on to our Christmas fundraising projects - Vallebona Panettone, which generated £384.10, Northbrook wrapping paper, which raised £108.06 and Cauliflower Christmas cards, which your boys had great fun designing at school, and raised £259.
At the end of November, we held our Christmas Fair, which was very well attended. The boys got the chance to meet Santa, had great fun on the Laser Tag inflatable, lined up for hours to try and get the ball past Mr. McInnes and Mr. Bragg, and tried their luck at many fun games and tombolas. It was an enjoyable day for the parents too, with the chance to catch up with other mums and dads over a cup of mulled wine. Thanks to the hard work of all those involved and the generosity of parents, the fair generated a fantastic sum of £4,712.
We have been putting our funds to good use this term, and following requests from the teachers, we have purchased some Probots (robotic cars which aid in the teaching of basic programming skills). We have also paid for a visit by the storyteller Kevin Graal, a Quantum theatre workshop and the recent Rambert School of Dance workshop. We hope that in this way, we are fulfilling our aim of enriching the educational experiences of the boys during their time at Squirrels.
Following a request from the boys on the School council, we have also purchased some Lego for the classrooms, to be used during occasions such as rainy playtimes. In addition, we will be donating 10% of all our proceeds to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where one of our boys is receiving treatment.
We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in making all our events and fundraisers happen – the FOS committee, the class reps and the staff, as well as everyone who has supported these events by taking part. We are always keen to hear from any parents who would like to get involved with Friends of Squirrels – please do get in touch with us via the school office.
We are hoping to host an evening social event for parents during the Spring Term – further details will follow in the New Year. In the meantime, we hope you all have a lovely Christmas.
